Omron TL-Q5MC2-Z inductive Z probe for Voron-style bed probing. This B-stock, Omron-marked rectangular proximity switch is an NPN normally-closed inductive sensor with a 5 mm ±10% sensing distance, 10–30 VDC operating range, and pre-wired cable leads.
Why use this over a generic PL-08N-style probe?
- Compact rectangular body: 17 × 17 × 28 mm, useful where round barrel probes are awkward.
- Fast inductive detection: Omron lists 2 ms max. response time and 500 Hz response frequency for the TL-Q5MC series.
- Heat-resistant ABS body and IEC IP67 protection rating, with an operating range of -25°C to 70°C.
- Common Voron/V1/V2 bed-probing choice where an NPN NC inductive probe is expected.
Specifications
- Model / MPN: TL-Q5MC2-Z
- Sensor type: inductive proximity switch, unshielded rectangular Q-series body
- Output: NPN open collector, normally closed (NC)
- Sensing distance: 5 mm ±10%; set distance 0–4 mm
- Detects: ferrous metal; sensing distance is reduced on non-ferrous metals
- Standard sensing object: iron 15 × 15 × 1 mm
- Supply voltage: 12–24 VDC nominal, operating range 10–30 VDC
- Current consumption: 10 mA max. at 24 VDC
- Switching capacity: 50 mA max. at 30 VDC
- Cable: pre-wired 3-conductor cable; label wiring is brown +V, blue 0V, black output
Use and fitment
Use this as a metal bed / Z reference probe on compatible 3D-printer builds that call for an NPN NC inductive sensor, including Voron-style printers. If you are wiring a Voron-style probe circuit, the BAT85 diode is a common small companion part for protected probe-input wiring.
Gotchas
- This is an inductive probe: it senses metal, not glass, plastic, PEI, or magnetic sheets by themselves.
- It is NPN NC. Do not buy it for a PNP or normally-open wiring scheme unless your controller/config expects that output.
- B-stock means cosmetic/packaging condition may vary; function should match the TL-Q5MC2-Z use case.
