The complete shaft set for a Voron Legacy, in carbon fiber: ten 8mm x 320mm linear shafts, the exact cut list the official Legacy configurator gives for the 230mm spec. Two for X, four for the quad-shaft Y, four for Z. One bundle, nothing to cut.

What's in the set

  • 10x 8mm carbon fiber linear shafts, 320mm long. Solid pultruded rod, matte black, 24g each. A steel 8x320 shaft is about 125g; this whole set weighs less than two of them.

Why carbon fiber on a Legacy

  • The two X shafts ride along with the gantry, so that is where the weight comes off. The Y and Z shafts are stationary; there, carbon fiber mostly means they never rust and never need oil.
  • Same idea as the Baby Legacy Motion Kit, at full Legacy scale.

Not included

  • Bushings. The Legacy BOM calls for ten LM8LUU-size (8x15x45mm) linear bearings. On carbon fiber, use the polymer version of that size (igus drylin style); these shafts are test-fit in an igus drylin bushing, see the photos. Never run steel-ball linear bearings on carbon fiber; the balls chew the resin.
  • Belts, pulleys, leadscrews, printed parts and the frame. The Voron Legacy Frame Kit is listed separately.

Specifications

  • Printer/project: Voron Legacy, 230mm spec (2x X, 4x Y, 4x Z, all 320mm per the official configurator).
  • Shafts: 10x 8mm x 320mm, solid pultruded carbon fiber, matte black.
  • Diameter: 8.00mm measured (0.315 in on a dial caliper).
  • Weight: 24g per shaft, about 240g per set.
  • Bearing fit: polymer bushings only (LM8LUU size).

Gotchas

  • If you cut or sand carbon fiber, use ventilation, a respirator and wet methods to control the dust.
